Comments...I see you have advanced critique selected, so I'll give you some advice.
First off, that guy was completely right about anime. Second, the sketches of normal!Stitch are very good. You have talent. The best thing I feel I can say to you is, don't waste that talent on drawing anime, because if you do, you'll lose any originality or respect you have, and you'll just be another cliched anime artist. See, that guy didn't NEED to see your drawings. When you said they were anime, he knew exactly what they'd look like, and THAT is why if you want to be an animator, you need to stay far, far away from anime. There, that's my two cents. Good work on normal!Stitch. -- An artist doesn't mean someone who purely draws, it means someone who creates. And you can never create something well done and pleasing to the eyes AND heart if you don't allow yourself to percept and critique. That's part of it. ~Miss Stitch See, I totally disagree. You can be a "true" artist (whatever that means) and draw anime. I mean, not all anime looks the same, and every anime arist has THEIR own style.
HOWEVER. You can't limit yourself to ONLY anime. If you want to become an animator, you're going to have to have a large range of what you can do. (I mean, compare Hercules to Mulan to W.I.T.C.H! Same company, totally different styles.) There's my two cents on the issue, although you didn't ask. xD About the art itself... It looks really good. I'm not a Stitch expert, so I can't really tell anything that may be wrong. I'd love to see you experiment with drawing animals and such. :] So far so good! -- I've got blisters on my fingers! The artist formerly known as agent-pocky sounds like the guy had his head up his arse....but then I'd not expect anything better from Di$ney...
You should have reminded him about how the Disney studios 'stole' the idea of Mickey from Max Fleisherman and his studios in the 30s. At the time Disney studios wasnt considered real artists! XD Anyway, one only has to look at the work of the artists of the Studio Ghibli team....which incidently Disney dont mind getting their hands dirty on the money coming in from distributing Ghilbli's anime in the USA.... I mean, its not artistic but we'll SELL it! You do what you want. Some out there wont like the style- others will love it. Thats the way of the world. Persoally I think Mickey Mouse is way over-rated but Sonic should have his own bank notes! You can never please all the people, but most importantly you must please yourself. ...and I do love the human/stich versions! (3&4) ...thats ORIGINAL! -- .. I'm against animal testing: it makes them nervous and they give the wrong answers! =^_^= nyu! This is exactly how I went about learning to draw Stitch! Well, first, I watched the movie about twenty times and did a bunch of sketches of various scenes. But, most recent attempts kinda started by doing a few of the how-to sketches, then after a bit you feel comfortable enough to draw him in any pose, without references!
As far as style goes, I don't think it'll limit you in the least! But, I would say rather than call yourself an anime artist or a disney artist, just call yourself an artist! Yes, anime is a style, but everyone learns to draw in their own style. Have fun, experiment! And I would also not recommend sticking just to Stitch (I'm branching out into other Disney characters now, as well as working on my own original characters). Oh, as a fun thing you might like to look at, here's Chris Sanders' Website (creator of Stitch who also worked on Beauty and the Beast, the Lion King, and Mulan) It's fun to see how his style works into different characters.
